Does anyone fly Frontier Airlines?

I have heard that Spirit, though cheap, is a huge pain in the ass but what about Frontier? I can get a screaming deal on a ticket from Chicago to DC that's not too bad of times from Frontier and I was wondering if they have a bunch of weirdo charges. E.g. charging for carry ons like Spirit.

I don't get why so many people think Southwest is so great. Although I am no road warrior, I fly a bit for pleasure and work, as per work guidelines, and my own personal cheap nature, I get online and find the cheapest flight that comes and goes around when I need to. I don't really feel the boarding process is better or worse on SW, but I do know I have the extra step of having to remember to get online at a certain time so I can get in the right zone or group or whatever they call it.

Other than that the experience is pretty much all the same, no food unless you pay for it, free coke if you want it, and hit or miss or weather the flight attendants are friendly and helpful, or prone to knock you on the shoulder every time they go by without so much as an "excuse me."

Southwest is the anti-Delta. Where Delta feeds off you with assigned seating and paying for checked baggage, Southwest is the complete opposite. Want a seat? Sit anywhere my friend? Want to check those two bags? Free!

Once you go SW, you never go back.

Frontier are almost as bad as Spirit. That said, they're not quite as bad. They do charge for pretty much everything though.

I haven't flown Spirit, but I exclusively fly Southwest and Frontier. Southwest is my favorite by far, but I fly Frontier when Southwest isn't available or more expensive. I haven't had many problems with delays or lost bags (actually my last flight with them was delayed 4.5 hours but let's skip that) and the planes don't have cheap materials like some of Delta's. Frontier has weird charges (get free "personal item" but have to pay for carry on) but the cost amounts to a little less than other airlines.

AKA, unprofessional. Also, I won't get up at 6 am 4 days in a row just so I don't have to sit in the middle in the back next to the Lav. Not flying southwest unless they're considerably cheaper than the next option.

Ugh. I can't stand SW. Let me just have an assigned seat so there will be one less thing to stress over. The staff is usually super nice. But I never check bags, so don't care about those fees. Don't have the time or care to check in early to get a good boarding group. It's like lunch time on your first day at a new high school trying to figure out who to sit by. If I go with my wife and kid there is no guarantee that we will all find seats together without having to tip a random stranger to switch. No thanks.

Spirit is terrible, never again. Frontier is meh. Alaska FTW (mostly because they have the best choice of flights and prices for all the places I go).

I flew Frontier a couple of years ago from Loveland Colorado to Vegas. They did charge $25 per carry-on, and it was general seating. Overall it was a good experience.

Frontier has treated me fine every single flight other than slightly crampy seats. usually a good 50 cheaper than the next best choice.

My issue is that $50 cheaper than the next one isn't cheap enough when they charge $30 each way for a carry on. I found that out in the middle of booking my flight and almost switched to American Airlines and flew into Reagan instead of Dulles.

First carry on is always free

Edited to add: times are also usually better for me, which is a pretty big thing to consider. So 50 may not be enough for cost, but timing usually saves me a cab or something

Yeah, it was $30 for a carry on and $3 for picking your seat assignment otherwise its random.

Personal item is free but not a carry on. My laptop backpack is probably going to be too big and I'd rather not risk getting charged $50 at the gate if I run into a crabby gate agent.

I guess I have been lucky. I've never paid for a carry on, and I've traveled with my backpack (large, doesn't fit under seat or in carry-on thingy), and a dufflebag for clothes. Usually they'll have someone at the gate saying if the plane is too small and they'll give free undercarriage loading for people's carry-on. And usually their planes are tiny, which means that happens a lot.

I'm flying out on an Airbus A320 so I think I'll have plenty of space. The newer ones are pretty nice anyway.

Way comfier and less cramped. Enjoy your trip!

The best part was they were the only provider at this small airport. The security, checkin, and gate was literally in a doublewide trailer. Sounds funny but it beat the 1.5hr drive to DIA, and the screening process there.
